How does your job culture/country handle grieving employees?

1 Answer

Answer :

I am a graduate student. On Sunday one of our professors committed suicide. Its just sad how our culture handles death and grieving. In class today, we were told “this is really really sad and unfortunate but this is life and it happens. We can’t just ignore our responsibilities when life happens. So on to the antibody lecture…” In American culture it seems like we are brainwashed by this “work is everything” mentality that we can’t even step away from our desk jobs and classes for one day to grieve someone who died? No wonder people go through with suicide—we are literally proving we don’t care by continuing on as business as usual
