It is important for men to pray in the mosque. It is not right to perform obligatory prayers at home without any excuse. This has been prohibited in several hadiths and has been strongly warned. However, if you have never met the congregation in the mosque, then it is better to pray in congregation with your wife and children at home without praying alone. The method of standing in this case is that the wife should stand behind the Imam. There is a hadith , Abu Bakra. He said , " The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came from the outskirts of Madinah one day to perform the prayer and saw that everyone (in the mosque with the congregation) had prayed." Then he went home and gathered the people and prayed with them (with the congregation ) . He said , "The Messenger of Allah , may Allah bless him and grant him peace, prayed with me and a woman from my family." Then he made me stand on his right side and that woman behind me. (Nasai 1/92)
